How do I use the self-issue machine?

Student borrowing items using self service machineYou can use the self-issue machine for three things: to borrow an item, to renew an item, or to check your account.

Firstly, to use the machine choose either Borrow, Account or Renew, and then scan your ID card.

To borrow an item:

  1. Place the book onto the security pad below the screen
  2. You can issue multiple items at a time by putting them onto the security pad all at once
  3. Wait for the title of the book to appear with a green tick next to it
  4. Select Finished
  5. Choose either Receipt or No Receipt

To renew an item:

  1. Press the square next to the item you want to renew or choose Select All if you want to renew everything on your account
  2. Press Renew at the bottom of the screen
  3. Your selected items will then be highlighted green, have a green tick next to it, and show a new due date.
  4. Select Finished
  5. Choose either Receipt or No Receipt

To check your account, you can do the following:

  1. Choose “Items Out” to see details of the items you currently have on loan
  2. Choose “Holds” to see your reservations
  3. Choose “Charges” to see the details of any fines. Please note you cannot pay for fines through this machine. Please check our “How do I pay my Library fines?” FAQ for guidance on how to pay your fines.
  4. To get a summary of your account, choose “Print/Email Report” at the bottom of the screen, followed by “Print” if you want a summary receipt from the self-issue machine or “Email” if you want a report sent to you by email. The report doesn't contain information on fines

If you have any issues or questions, please ask a staff member who will be more than happy to help.
