Library FAQs

If you need to bind your dissertation, laminate a document, or print a poster AV Resources can help. They're located in the Sir David Bell building, right next to the Library, and are open Monday-Friday - click the link above for up-to-date opening times. They provide a range of services including loaning equipment such as cameras, audio recorders, and video equipment. They also have self-service binding facilities.

Binding

If you need an A4 document bound there are two self-service binding machines in the David Bell Centre, as well as the service being available at AV Resources. These machines are on the ground floor, with binding materials sold in vending machines nearby. Please note, the vending machines only accept cash payments.

• The first stage is to print the document. We have computers on all floors of the Library as well as several in the David Bell Centre. Guidance on how to print can be found here.
• Next, check the number of pages that need to have bound. This will determine what size of binding you'll need to buy.

15-35 pages = 3.5mm binding

36-70 pages = 7.00mm binding

71-105 pages = 10.5mm binding

106-140 pages = 14.00mm binding

If you need to bind larger documents with up to 340 pages, these bindings can be provided by AV Resources.

• Then, wrap the binding around your document and place it into the binding machine spine downwards. Then, pull the lever down until the indicator at the bottom of the machine has gone green.
• Finally, lift the handle back up and remove the bound document from the machine.

Laminating

If you need to have a document laminated, this service is also available at AV Resources. You''ll need to book the service in advance, as the equipment takes time to warm up.

Poster Printing

Printers at the Library are able to print up to A3 in size. AV Resources can print up to A0, with a list of charges available on the eStore. They can also be paid for with cash at the AV Resources office.
